After you select which block to use, the next time you exit a stage (and all subsequent times, for that play session) an "Update Save" option appears: when chosen, it says "Saving." followed a few seconds later by "Save completed", after which the player returns to controlling Gex. In the final, after you first exit a stage during a play session, you only have the option of "Save Game".
